Guided Walk, Friday, August 27, National Key Deer Refuge, Big Pine Key Shopping Plaza

The National Key Deer Refuge was established in 1957 to protect and preserve Key deer and other wildlife resources in the Florida Keys. The refuge is located in the lower Florida Keys and currently consists of approximately 9,200 acres of land that includes pine rockland forests, tropical hardwood hammocks, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh wetlands, and mangrove forests.

You can participate in a guided refuge trail walk for birders and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels at the National Key Deer Refuge Visitor’s Center.

Participants will caravan to the scheduled trail site, with maps provided. The group will promptly departure at 8:05 a.m. for morning bird activity. Each walk will end no later than 11 a.m.

Bring a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, comfortable walking shoes, water, binoculars or spotting scope, field guides, and appropriate dress for the weather are suggested.
