Old Island Days Art Festival, February 27 to February 28, 2010

The Old Island Days Art Festival is a two day outdoor fine art festival. This nationally recognized show brings over 100 fine artists to Key West.

Exhibitors display their artwork along Whitehead Street from Greene Street to Eaton, and on Caroline Street through the famous Presidential Gates into the beautiful Truman Annex.

The show, in its 45th year, is sponsored by the Key West Art Center, and was originally held to raise money for the renovation of the building at 301 Front Street.

Civil War Days, Fort Taylor, February 26-28, 2010

Come this weekend for Civil War re-enactments and tours of Key West’s historic Civil War era Fort Zachary Taylor.

Inside Fort Taylor, Battery B, First U.S. Artillery will demonstrate how seacoast artillery operated. The demonstration will be done on an original 10-inch Rodman seacoast cannon mounted on an iron carriage in the North curtain.

Also a big hit with visitors to the fort is a living history demonstration of the “School of the Soldier” and explaining what life was like for soldiers in the 1860s.

The infirmary will be staffed by a real life surgeon who will show how garrison soldiers were treated for “Yellow Jack” and other maladies of the day.

Waterfront Playhouse Presents The Full Monty, February 25 – March 20, 2010

“The Full Monty” is set in Buffalo, New York where the local steel mill has just folded. Buddies Jerry and Dave have been laid off, struggling to survive and anxious about their future.

After seeing the wildly enthusiastic reactions of their wives and girlfriends to a Chippendale’s style troupe, Jerry comes up with the idea of doing a one-night performance to make some quick money.

“The Full Monty” sizzles with heat and heart. As the guys work through their fears and self-consciousness, they discover renewed self-esteem, the importance of friendship and the ability to have fun. Their journey is hilarious, poignant and ultimately triumphant as they face that ultimate moment of revelation.

“The Full Monty” took Broadway by storm, running for over 800 performances and was nominated for 10 Tony Awards.

A graduate of Harvard, Bob is a former president of the Society of American Travel Writers and a former director of the British Guild of Travel Writers. The author of several travel and art books, he has edited nearly 800 books.

Gardenfest Key West, Plant Sale And Workshop, February 19 – 21, 2010
